If it is on the Internet, it must be true! Not! How do you know if a Web site is accurate? How do you help your learners think critically about online information? How do you keep your learners safe online? Information literacy is defined as the ability to find, evaluate, and use information. This webinar will focus on the EVALUATE part of information literacy definition. A number of strategies will be presented that a teacher can employ to evaluate the validity of places we visit online. Resources will be provided with specific tools to use with adult learners to help them become savvier consumers of information online. Classroom Approaches In Action
The New American Horizons Foundation Web site features a three-volume video series for adult ESL instructors, Classroom Approaches in Action. Each of the eight teacher–training videos in the series runs approximately 30 minutes, demonstrates effective teaching practices with classroom learners, and features interviews with instructors.
The videos can be viewed online for free; educators also have the option to purchase DVDs from New American Horizons Foundation at minimal cost. Topics include:

CALPRO is offering a Virtual Workroom and a companion PLC (professional learning community) where multilevel ESL instructors can find a wide range of professional development resources related to workforce readiness. The Virtual Workroom provides numerous curricular resources for ABE, ASE, and ESL instructors on integrating and contextualizing workforce skills into their instruction. A companion Website serves as an electronic Community of Practice, where eligible educators can expand their professional knowledge, share and create resources, and solve problems inherent in workforce readiness. All adult educators working in programs funded by the California Department of Education are eligible to join the e-CoP and membership is free.

The goal of this video library is to increase individual adult educators’ access to professional development on emerging priority topics. Current topics include college transitions and an orientation for new adult education administrators. Additionally, the library features videos of best practices in action, such as classroom approaches to teaching English to adult learners and direct, explicit instruction in reading to adult basic education students.Also, the library serves as a repository for three series of CALPRO Webinars, from Fall 2010 to the present. These include the Instructors Forum, the Administrators Forum, and the Adult Education Research series.
